WELCOME TO THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR!

Hello Team Riverview Families!
We hope your school year is off to a good start! Now that everyone is settled into new routines, we wanted to touch base with you to let you know that even though this school year looks different and presents new challenges, the PTA is still working hard to support the students, teachers and families at Riverview. We believe the PTA’s role is more important than ever in connecting parents, teachers and administrators, and supporting critical school needs. If you have not yet joined the PTA, there is still time! Simply complete your online membership form at: riverviewpta.new.memberhub.store/store.
During the past few weeks, we have been hard at work delivering the 2019-2020 yearbooks to all Maroon and Gold students that ordered one last year. This required a tremendous amount of coordination as many students are no longer in the building, either because they are on the Gold Plan this year, or because they have moved on to Lakeview. A big shout out to April Miller who helped us sort & distribute all the yearbooks – we could not have done it without you! If you ordered a yearbook last year but have not received it, please contact Joy Newingham at joynewingham@gmail.com.
We have also provided each student and staff member with a Riverview face mask lanyard. I think we can all agree these come in handy to make sure face masks don’t end up on the floor or anywhere else they shouldn’t be. Lanyards were distributed to Maroon students in their classroom, and to Gold students on picture day. If your child has not received their lanyard, please contact Ann Bemer at annbemer@gmail.com.
We know that everyone is probably wondering about the status of PTA sponsored fall/winter events. As you know, many of the events we provide for the students, like COSI on Wheels or the PAWS Assembly (Jim “Basketball” Jones), will not be possible at this time due to social distancing guidelines or availability due to the pandemic. Our plan is to postpone these events or replace them with a virtual option if possible. Sadly, our much-loved Holiday Shop will also not be possible to have “in person” this year. However, we are looking into a virtual option that will be entirely online sometime in early November. That being said, we also understand that part of the fun of Holiday Shop is allowing the kids to pick out & wrap gifts for their family, so we invite all of you to complete the following survey by October 15th to determine whether or not to move forward with a virtual shop: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TTRYXKD.
As we carry on into the school year, the PTA will be continually exploring options for enrichment opportunities that we are still able to do during the pandemic. For example, one thing we are rolling out over the next couple weeks is a Birthday Book Cart so that every student – Maroon or Gold - will receive a book for their birthday. (If your child had a birthday in September or October, don’t worry, we will be getting them their book in the next week or two!) We welcome suggestions and ideas to help us continue to support our students, staff & family – please email us at: TeamRiverviewPTA@gmail.com.
Lastly, keep an eye out for more information coming home soon about our fall fundraiser, the Bulldog Dash, which will be entirely virtual this year. We are working hard to still make it fun and rewarding for our children & provide them with ways to stay connected with each other during the fundraiser whether Maroon or Gold.
We continue to wish you all the best as we head into fall & winter and can’t wait until the day we can all be together again! Whether Maroon or Gold, together we make Riverview a “PAW-some” place to learn & grow!
